The reason why most people don’t realize their full potential is because they limit themselves to the confines of their locality or current circumstances. This inevitably affects their ability to pummel their efforts towards achieving their goals.

In a rapidly shrinking global village, it is becoming more and more crucial for people to adopt strategies that reflect the realities of a changing global market. The traditional limitations of space and time that existed before the advent of the Internet no longer exist today. Whereas it may have required one to be located in a particular country to be able to do business in that country, today, a presence on the internet gives you instant access to markets in countries that only a decade ago were out of reach.

And it’s not just business people who should think and act globally. Anybody who is working on a cause, be it a career, a business, or a calling, must position themselves for success by exploiting the numerous opportunities available in today’s global village.

To get this vantage position for success, you must be prepared to exert yourself beyond the capacity of the average person. To do this, you must have the capacity to think and act both within and outside the box.

Life has a way of rewarding ordinary people that do extraordinary things. These are people that refuse to accept the status quo by venturing into spheres that demand above average performance.

To help you gauge whether you are an extraordinary or a run-off-the-mill person, let us now look at a few characteristics of outside-the-box thinkers.

Visionary. People who do extraordinary things have the ability to see the end from the beginning. A vision is a mental picture of where you would like to be at a particular point in time. Obstacles do not deter visionary people.

For a business or an internet venture to succeed, one must employ marketing, selling and communications skills that are far above average. Establishing good business relationships is a prerequisite for a successful venture.

Dexterity in handling customers and convincing them to buy your product or service will separate you from the average person.

Consistent and diligent. It is not enough to just have a plan of action – you need to consistently and diligently stick to it! Being focused for one day is not enough. Highly successful people assiduously and consistently apply themselves to every day’s tasks until they achieve their objective. Whether you are having a good or a bad day, if you want to be a cut above the rest, then you must ensure that every day’s tasks are accomplished.

Dynamic. Extraordinary people are energized by action or change. They are forever in motion, picking up new ideas and discarding obsolete ones. They adopt new strategies when old ones fail; and they are not rigidly inclined to stick to old paradigms. They consistently hone their skills and acquire new knowledge and expertise so as to keep up with developments in their field.

I believe that there are many more characteristics of extraordinary people than I have enumerated here. However, if you can diligently and studiously follow the few that I have outlined here, you will be on your to attaining greatness.
